Arthroscopy of the knee
Arthroscopy is a relatively common orthopaedic operation. It is used to diagnose the extent of joint surface damage and to treat injured or otherwise damaged intra-articular structures. It is a minimally invasive method, i.e. the knee joint is accessed through small incisions in the front of the knee. This minimizes scarring and reduces the risk of infection and pain, leading to faster rehabilitation and earlier return to normal activities.
The most common indication for arthroscopy of the knee joint is suspected damage to the menisci, cartilage or internal ligaments. The following arthroscopic surgeries can be performed in the knee area: treatment of minor damage to the meniscus or cartilage defects, removal of the meniscus, meniscus suturing or scar adhesions, kneecap stabilization, articular cartilage replacement, anterior and posterior cruciate ligament replacement, etc.
Outpatient meniscus treatment is most often performed as part of day surgery. In the case of more serious problems (larger defects in the articular cartilage, rupture of the cruciate ligaments), reconstructive arthroscopic or open surgery is needed.
Another surgical alternative for treating the intra-articular structures is arthrotomy, i.e. opening the joint cavity, usually with a scalpel, on the anterior side of the knee joint with the prosthesis of the patella tendons and joint capsule. This is a much more invasive approach, which does not provide a better view than arthroscopy and increases the risk of early complications. Further immobilization and recovery of the knee joint is likely after this type of procedure. However, this surgical procedure is unavoidable in more complex cases such as intra-articular fractures or cartilage transplantation.

More information on the procedure
Procedures are usually performed under general anaesthesia.
The length of hospitalization depends on the surgical procedure. In outpatient surgery, the patient is discharged home on the day of surgery (usually not earlier than 2 hours after the procedure).
Details of treatment and its progress depends mainly on the nature of the joint, the type of surgery and the chosen treatment. Depending on the type of surgery, crutches are used after the operation - after diagnostic and simple surgical arthroscopy, crutches should be used for 1-2 weeks and overall recovery takes about 2-4 weeks.
Treatment and long-term prognosis may be longer and supplemented, for example, by immobilization in a brace; this always depends on the severity of the injury, the condition of the knee joint before the procedure, and the patient's overall health.
The price range for the procedure is from CZK 45.000 to CZK 75.000, including anesthesia (or analgosedation) with post-procedure rest/hospitalization. We offer a price discount of up to 50% for the use of available dates.
How our clients rate us
Minimally invasive, maximum care
One-day surgery is a concept that involves non-emergency surgical procedures. Its advantage is quick recovery and minimal pre- and post-op stress.
